Eric Hofstein began studying martial arts in 1984, gaining a black belt in Korean martial arts. At the advent of UFC he started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and boxing to gain more realistic self defense skills for his career as a police officer and deputy sheriff in northern California.
He is a California certified defensive tactics instructor, training officer in two states, and has trained in BJJ under MMA champion Gil Castillo, a BJJ black belt from the Caesar Gracie fight team that included Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, and Dave “The Soul Assassin” Terrell.
In boxing and kickboxing, he trained under world champion Scott “Great Scott” Ashley, but in 2004 he discovered Muay Thai at Combat Fitness in Concord California where he trained for the next 17 years under four-time world champion George “TNT” Tsutsui from the Fairtex fight team. He became a coach and cornerman for amateur and professional fighters who went on to win titles in various Muay Thai venues.
As a bonus, Eric his fully trained in Whole Health Action Management, which certifies him as a health coach. Empower uses these skills to the benefit of our students.
