Traditional Muay Thai as practiced in Thailand does have a ranking system where Nak Muays can advance in levels or grades called Khans. While we pride ourselves on honoring the roots of Muay Thai and teaching true Muay Thai at Empower Muay Thai, we recognize that one of the measures for gaining rank in Thailand, one's fight record, does not apply to us. Therefore we will use the other aspects of dedicated training to assess our Nak Muays.

Traditional Nak Muays wear armbands called Pra Jiads to indicate more than rank. They signal a fighter's dedication to sportsmanship, hard work, growth, and loyalty to name a few recognitions. These armbands are blessed by monks or trusted elders and have deep ties to Buddhism. In order to respect the spiritual nature of the traditional Pra Jiad while paying homage to the traditions, we will be using bracelets that loosely resemble some types of Pra Jiads that can be seen on professional Nak Muays.
There are three basic ranks in Thailand:
Between these ranks one can earn additional recognitions:
At Empower Muay Thai, Nak Muays are evaluated in an ongoing fashion during classes. Every three months Nak Muays will have the opportunity to earn additions to their Kahn Pra Jiad based on their dedication and skill. At the end of the last class of that month, instructors will announce the recipients and provide them with the addition to their Pra Jiad.
In Thailand, on Muay Thai Day, people celebrate the triumph of Nai Khanom Tom who bested nine Burmese fighters while Siam (now Thailand) was under siege.
Nak Muays who are ready to advance to the next Khan will be promoted on or near March 17th, Muay Thai Day.
