Our Lineage and Why It Matters
Just as implied in the old Kung Fu movies, where you train makes a difference. Each Master, each Sensei, each Professor, each Ajarn has honed and perfected a style unique to their experiences and abilities. They pass down this style in their teachings.
This style becomes more perfected as the students pass it down to future generations. This gives the school a unique style.
For example, many people who are acquainted with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are aware of the Gracie school. That differs from other styles that have emerged over the years.
If one is serious about studying martial arts, it is important to choose a school with a proven lineage of success. Lineage can indicate a style’s adaptability and effectiveness. When new students who have tried other schools come to Empower Muay Thai for a free trial class and we ask the lineage of the previous schools they’ve attended, they usually are unaware of where the other instructors learned Muay Thai and what they bring to the table in the way of expertise.
At Empower Muay Thai, all of the instructors studied under four-time world champion Fairtex fighter George “TNT” Tsutsui. Originating from Thailand, the Fairtex team is well respected in the Muay Thai world for its production of world champions.
Fairtex has a rich history of firsts in Muay Thai. George Tsutsui earned his four world championships under their banner, and taught our coaches what he learned from that journey at his fight gym Combat Fitness in Concord, California. Empower Muay Thai makes that wisdom accessible to you.
You don’t have to become a world champion. But we’ll share those same skills with you.
Muay Thai is an effective striking style that goes beyond boxing and kickboxing. The techniques taught are more intuitive than the rigid forms of Karate and Tae Kwon Do, and a striking program that doesn’t push you to perform beyond your comfort level can be a cathartic stress relief. We teach in a relaxed environment where people of all skill levels can enjoy themselves and get in a good workout.
